Baku, surprise Europe!

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 6

Trend:

The Azerbaijani Diaspora Journalists Union presents the opinions of foreign students studying in Indonesia about the First European Games, as part of the project called ‘Azerbaijan’s Foreign Friends Abroad’.

The union said in its message that the students proposed to organize at the Baku 2015 European Games a meeting of not only the European countries, but also all the continents.

Milica Vukovic, from Serbia, says she loves Azerbaijan. She hopes the athletes representing her country at the European Games will have good luck.

“I am a Serb, and like all my peers, I watch sporting events,” said Vukovic. “I have heard a lot about these Games and got interested in them.”

The Baku 2015 European Games will be a novelty in Europe’s sporting life, she said.

“I’d like to note that the holding of such a prestigious and responsible event in such a country as Azerbaijan, is itself an interesting event, because this Caucasian country, which is to receive thousands of athletes and tourists, has not before hosted an event of this scale,” she noted.

Vukovic added she could confidently say that Azerbaijan is fully prepared for the First European Games.

“Hopefully, Serbian athletes will see a transparent atmosphere in Baku and the excellent organization will give additional impetus to the victory,” said the Serbian student.

As Serbia and Azerbaijan are bound by political ties, she said. “I’m confident that my country will show even more interest in Azerbaijan after these Games.”

“I have read that Azerbaijan is a tolerant country,” said the student, adding that nothing can prevent the country with so many positive factors and economic power from successfully organizing the European Games.

“Your country has long been ready to hold such a great event,” she said.

Nilasari Chang, a student from China, the country that hosted the Olympic Games, expressed confidence that the European Games in Baku will be held at the same high level as the Olympic Games.

“Asian countries will not participate in these Games and unfortunately, China won’t be able to see its athletes in these competitions,” she said. “We watched the preparations on a video footage. Everything is wonderful!”

“We wonder which surprises will be in the opening ceremony and which innovations will be in these Games,” said the Chinese student.

“I wish you success on behalf of my country and say: Baku, surprise Europe,” she added.
Lameck Maninji from Zimbabwe said the first European Games Baku 2015 will become a new page in the history of sports. He said that the countries, which are mandated to carry out such an important sporting event taking place on every continent, are not chosen randomly.

Azerbaijan’s development and stability has allowed the country to take on such a responsible mission.

“From now on, I will show more interest for this country, which I don’t know very well,” said a student from Zimbabwe. “Azerbaijan has managed to surprise everyone, having held Eurovision and drawn attention to itself. I am sure that after the first European Games the interest to your country will grow, and many will become interested in Azerbaijan. I wish success to Baku.”

Azerbaijani student Elmar Isgandarov studying in Indonesia sent the wishes of students to the Association of Journalists of the Diaspora of the country.

Azerbaijan's tourism potential is increasing, as does the flow of tourists into the country. As Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev said at the Caspian Energy Forum – 2015, the country aims to increase the flow of tourists by 30-40 percent within several years.

Garayev said Azerbaijan plans to be receiving some 5 million of tourists annually by 2020.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
